Megalochori Village
“Ambeli Villa” is conveniently located just outside Megalochori, one of the most picturesque and vibrant villages in Santorini. Walking through the labyrinth of alleys and lanes in Megalochori, one can admire old cave houses, stately homes and historical mansions with solid wooden doors and high fences, which were used as a protection from pirates. The wonderful central square is the heart and soul of the village, where locals usually gather in small cafes to chat and have fun, while visitors can unwind under the shade of the trees and taste mouthwatering local delicacies in the traditional taverns. There are several impressive churches and quaint chapels in the area, such as the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, which are certainly worth a visit. In Megalochori, there are also a lot of pottery workshops, which offer visitors the opportunity to take part in the process of constructing ceramic utensils, pots and works of art. Finally, on the outskirts, one can visit exceptional local wineries that produce top-quality wine. Exploring their large vineyards and fine cellars will not only enable you to learn about the history of the local wine and viniculture, but you will have a unique wine tasting experience, as well.
